Yamaha Confirms Electric E01 Scooter With Patent Filing

Yamaha filed for a patent for their E01 electric scooter, the same one that was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show trade show as a concept bike in 2019. The patent they filed and the trademarking of the name E01 shows that they didn’t just make it as a concept, but rather plan to bring it to market. It’s powerful, with (likely) an 11kW motor that is aimed squarely at the 125cc scooter market.

The patent filing shows that the battery will take up much of the space in the middle of the scooter.

The overall bike like very similar to the concept bike, with a few cosmetic changes. The headlight is now inspired by the R1’s dual headlights. From the timing on the patent filing and name trademarking, it is likely that the E01 will be available next year. It will be interesting to see if the scooter comes out at the same time as the new, swappable battery through Yamaha’s involvement with KTM, Honda, and Piaggio for their swappable battery consortium. Currently, the E01 lists the battery as “fixed”, not removable.
