SPECIALIZED ANNOUNCES THE LIGHTEST ELECTRIC MOUNTAIN BIKE YET
Specialized announces the lightest electric mountain bike ever, the Turbo Levo SL.
Specialized today announced that they have the lightest electric-assist mountain bike yet, a mere 38 lbs (17.35 kg). Aimed at those whose highest concern is lightness, it’s the superleggera (super light) version of the venerable Turbo Levo. It’s aimed at those who want a much lighter bike than the Turbo Levo or Turbo Kenevo, at the expense of range. The team at Specialized aimed at making this the closest possible bike to their regular Stumpjumper. All versions of this offer 150mm of travel front and rear.
They all feature Specialized’s own proprietary, lightweight (1.9 kg motor) with a magnesium casing that offers up to 240W and 35Nm of assistance. The stock battery is 480Wh, with the option of adding 160Wh Range Extenders, external batteries that can add range. Their Mission Control app allows you to control and customize power settings and range. The difference between the SL 1.1 motor in the Turbo Levo SL is not only significantly smaller and lighter than the 2.1 motor used in the Turbo Levo, it also features different internal components. While the Specialized 2.1 motor was purpose-built for delivering the most power possible, the Specialized SL 1.1 motor was purpose-built around the lightest system possible.
CHOICES
There are a few different versions. The flagship is the Founder’s Edition Levo SL. It is their truly unlimited version (though it’s limited to only 250 units made), with gold foil graphics laid over a Spectraflair paint in satin finish, a custom Power saddle with matching gold “S” graphic, matching gold Fox Shox fork and rear shock graphics, SRAM AXS wireless drivetrain with rainbow color cassette, chain and brake hardware, as well as two of their Range Extender batteries. This is the one that weighs in at 38 lbs, and it’s priced at a premium: USD$16,525.

The S-Works version utilizes the same FACT 11m carbon frame. It has Fox Factory suspension and a SRAM Eagle XX1 drivetrain. It comes in a little cheaper, at USD$13,525.

The Turbo Levo SL Expert Carbon offers up a carbon frame, Fox suspension and a SRAM Eagle GX drivetrain for US$9025.

The Turbo Levo SL Comp Carbon offers a carbon frame, Fox suspension and a SRAM Eagle NX drivetrain for US$7525.

And last but not least, there’s the Turbo Levo SL Comp. It uses an aluminum frame, Fox 34 fork and a DPS shock, to offer the most affordable of the bunch at US$6525. Weight of this one is still a very respectable 19.4 kg/42.7 lbs.

WEIGHT DIFFERENCE
For a little weight comparison between the Turbo Levo and the Turbo Levo SL, the S-Works version the original Levo is 8.8 lbs (4 kg) heavier than the SL version.
