Soften The Ride With The Kinekt 2.1 Suspension Seatpost
Kinekt 2.1 Suspension Seatpost
When it comes to choosing what e-MTB to buy, you basically have two choices—a hardtail or full-suspension bike. While first and foremost that choice should be based on how and where you ride, there is no escaping two fundamental truths about full-suspension bikes—they make heavy e-bikes even heavier, thus plenty of avid off-road riders still prefer a hardtail frame. But, in and of itself, the name “hardtail” just sounds plain uncomfortable, right?
Well, that’s where the market for suspension seatposts comes in. No, they aren’t intended to take the place of 6 inches of rear-wheel travel for “sending it” down some steep chutes at the bike park in Whistler, British Columbia. But, they are there to bring some added comfort and performance without the added complexity and weight of rear suspension.
In our October 2020 issue we compared three of the top contenders, and the Kinekt 2.1 was the model that came out on top. It has adjustable preload, and there are different springs available for different rider weight.
It’s the most linear, which is important because it changes your riding position towards the back under compression, which can be very disconcerting. The Kinekt comes in two lengths—350mm and 420mm—and diameters from 25.4mm to 31.6mm. It’s not cheap at $250, but it’s fantastic for making your rides more comfortable, especially over damaged roads and rough terrain. Price is $249.95.
