Pirelli Debuts A Winter-Specific E-bike Tire

Pirelli has made some truly impressive e-bike tires in the past couple of years. When we’ve ridden them, the grip and ride quality are outstanding. They’re now offering a winter-season-specific tire for e-bikes and other urban bikes, called the CYCL-e Winter (WT). It features a unique compound developed by Pirelli engineers to face up to the low temperatures and difficult roadbeds that city bikes, even the top performing electric bikes, can encounter during the winter months.
They’re designed it using their experience in making winter tires for the automotive industry, combined with their experience making good e-bike-specific tires. The compound they use adapts to low temperatures, offering good grip in freezing conditions and a lower warm-up time.
The tread of the CYCL-e tire is formed by two layers of compound: one “cap” compound in contact with the asphalt and a “base” that works to prevent punctures. This compound is also environmentally friendly as it contains crumb rubber, taken from end-of-life car tires.
