We use them often on rides, and the communication between units is good for a distance of 900 feet, While the X1 is a big, round helmet, the new R1 has far better styling with the same great technology. It pairs with your phone, can play/share music and includes navigation as well. The new Sena R1 sells for $129, and you can use up to four helmets together.
