NEW PIVOT SHUTTLE ANNOUNCED
There’s a new Shuttle in town, from Pivot. Specifically, it’s the Team XTR model. They’ve tweaked and improved it in several ways. They’ve switched to the new Shimano EP8 motor, which offers more torque, lighter weight and less pedaling resistance than the E8000 motor used in the previous Shuttle versions.
The new Shuttle will have a massive, 726Wh battery fitted into the down tube. A 2-bolt system for battery removal makes swapping batteries or charging off-the-bike easy. The lighter (2.57kg vs the E8000’s 2.88 kg) EP8 motor is designed to be more efficient, even with higher power (85Nm of torque, vs the E8000’s 70Nm). It incorporates magnesium in the shell, which is lighter than aluminum, and it dissipates heat better. Shimano claims that the EP8 has 36% less resistance, especially above the power cutoff speed, thanks to an improved gearbox and new seals.
Pivot has designed this carbon fiber chassis with progressive geometry, DW-link suspension and a beefy Fox 38 fork with 160mm of travel. The Fox DPX2 shock offers 140mm of travel in the rear. Pivot chose a Maxxis Assegai tire in the front for high grip, and a Minion DHR II for traction in the rear.
