New Leatherman Free
A multi-tool you should always have with you.
We like to ride with a few tools, just in case. One thing to carry is a multitool that can get you out of trouble. Leatherman is legendary for their multitools, and now they have the FREE Collection, including their flagship model, the P4. It features 10 different stainless steel tools, including needlenose and regular pliers, premium replaceable wire cutters, a knife, a serrated knife, scissors, a saw, a pry tool and a package opener.
The reason they call this line “FREE” isn’t because it costs nothing. It’s designed to be used one-handed. The tool is closed with a magnet. With one hand, you can flip it open like a butterfly knife, and the tools can be accessed with one hand. They all lock in place when flipped out, and there’s an innovative way to disengage the lock for easy closing.
It has a pocket clip/lanyard ring, or you can put it on your belt with the included gray nylon sheath. We’ve used this to cut pieces of tube for an emergency patch, tighten regular or philips screws/bolts, even cut some wire to hold a broken chainring out of the way until we could get home to fix it. We find myriad uses for them, this is always in our hydration pack, pocket or camera bag.
We have suggested that Leatherman make a set with some bike tools, and they said they will consider that. Drop ’em a line and second our suggestion, the quality of their tools is exceptional, we’ve had some of their products for many years, and they last and last. The Free P4 comes with a 25 year warranty, and all Leatherman products are designed and manufactured in Portland, Oregon.
