New Bike Day: Stromer Class 3 ST2 Bike

STROMER ROLLS OUT THE

NEW ST2

Stromer has redesigned the ST2. It is a Class 3 (28 mph) bicycle with a 750-watt, TDCM-sourced CYRO rear hub motor. The motor offers several levels of regeneration, which helps put some energy back into the battery while braking. The 618-Wh battery offers a range of up to 75 miles (claimed). The drivetrain is a Gates carbon belt drive, offering silent, maintenance-free pedaling, and the 5-speed Sturmey Archer hub gear operates from a grip shifter. All cables are internal, offering a very clean look.

The frame and fork are aluminum, and the alloy rack can hold up to 22.5 kilograms. The tires are 27.5-inch E-Gridlock by Vee Tires, and the higher volume of these tires will help reduce the shock from bumps in the road. The tread pattern on those looks similar to the Pirelli tires developed for other Stromer bikes. We really liked the performance of those tires, but we haven’t yet tried these new Vee tires. Braking is handled via Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 203mm rotors front and rear.

CONNECTIVITY

There’s a full display on the top tube, but you can also use the Omni smartphone app to see everything from battery level to location, and you can tweak the performance of the motor and even lock the hub. The bike itself has 3G and Bluetooth connectivity, so it can communicate with you when you’re away from it and receive over-the-air updates.

The integrated lighting includes a bright headlight that works as a daytime running light and a nice accent light on the head tube. Fenders are included. There are also customization tools on Stromer’s website to change riding position, add a suspension fork and/or seatpost, and more. Price of the base ST2 is $5699 for the dark grey and $5759 for the Royal Blue color, in sizes medium and large.
