Letters: EBA Bike Test Suggestions

Riese & Müller Superdelite Mountain

As an owner of three e-bikes—a R&M, an eProdigy and a Volt—allow me to make a suggestion for your bike reviews. To give a reasonable comparison of effective gearing, list the pedal cadence measured at 20 mph. For instance, my R&M cadence at 20 mph is 57. The eProdigy cadence is 72, and that is after eProdigy cut a larger, 50-tooth drive gear for me. I ride the R&M frequently, about 3500 miles last year. I ride the eProdigy rarely, mostly loan it to friends who want to cruise at 14–16 mph. When shopping for e-bikes, I now always ask for the pedal cadence at 20 mph.

EBA: Steve, that’s an interesting way to check out bike performance. We’d be happy to look into adding that if enough readers wanted it. Of course, there are ways to change this via gearing if the stock gearing doesn’t give you what you want. Glad to hear you’re having so much fun and getting a lot of miles and smiles on the Riese & Müller!
