HARLEY–DAVIDSON’S SERIAL 1
Taking its name from Harley-Davidson’s oldest known motorcycle, the Serial 1 Cycle Company is starting to produce electric bicycles. It’s a melding of a world-class company and the innovation and agility of a start-up brand.
“When Harley-Davidson first put power to two wheels in 1903, it changed how the world moved forever,” says Aaron Frank, Brand Director for Serial 1 Cycle Company. “Inspired by the entrepreneurial vision of Harley-Davidson’s founders, we hope to once again change how cyclists and the cycling-curious move around their world with a Serial 1 e-bicycle.”
The bike looks beautiful. It very much has similar lines as the 1903 H-D motorcycle. The new bike is full of some great details—from the light-up logo on the head tube to the LED taillights on the rear dropouts to the mid-drive motor connected to the carbon belt drivetrain.
Although we think the move to Serial 1 should’ve been made before the launch of the Livewire motorcycle, the project is part of H-D’s broader electric road map into the future, and that’s what we find to be the most intriguing.
