2020 KTM SX-E 5 ELECTRIC PEE-WEE
2020 KTM SX-E 5 ELECTRIC PEE-WEE-
WINNER OF THE BACKYARD GRAND PRIX

The newly developed KTM SX-E 5 is the next step in KTM’s innovative future lineup. Combining their dominance in youth motocross with an incredible amount of research into electric moto development, the 2020 KTM SX-E 5 is built on the bones of the popular KTM 50SX two-stroke. With electric power, the KTM SX-E 5 enjoys the advantage of zero emissions, low noise and minimal maintenance, which makes it the ideal bike for the Backyard Grand Prix. The KTM SX-E 5 will also be joined by a matching 2020 Husqvarna EE. The KTM E-Mini will be released first with the Husky EE a few months later.
The KTM electric Pee-Wee bike will allow families to let their kids ride in backyards and fields where noise would have curtained such activity before. As an added plus, this backyard-style riding will introduce a whole new group of riders into the world of offroad motorcycling. It is a plus for kids, families and the sport.

The power pack can provide enough juice for two hours of trail riding or 25 minutes of motocross racing. It comes with an external charger that can restore full power in one hour using 110- or 230-volt sockets. The state-of-the-art electric motor offers 5 kilowatts of peak performance thanks to 84 modern lithium-ion cells housed in a die-cast aluminum casing mounted just above the motor.
The seat height can be adjusted from 653mm to 698mm, and there is an optional lowering kit that can further lower the seat height to just 556mm. As a safety feature, a lanyard can be attached to the rider’s wrist that kills the engine when the lanyard is removed from the bike on purpose or in a crash. There are six different ride modes accessed via a multi-functional instrument panel (and a secret switch under the seat to prevent Junior from turning the power up).

KTM plans to spend 570 million dollars over the next five years in developing light electric motorcycles. The investment will be put towards research, development and innovation in the area of smart materials and technologies for motorcycles, as well as future urban mobility concepts.
Like the Husky, the SX-E 5 intends to attract younger riders, particularly riders (and parents) who don’t want the buzz of a small engine annoying the neighborhood. With real components and real performance, it’s not your typical ride-on toy, but a legitimate minibike in its own right. It is also likely to cultivate brand awareness and loyalty from younger riders as they grow up and progress through their riding careers.
